STAND UP FOR LIFE ….. BEFORE LIFE KNOCKS YOU DOWN

Our world has stepped into a new millennium filled with hope, and the promise of an exciting new life made possible by giant strides in technology. And yet, we are also bombarded from every side by natural calamities of unforeseen proportions.

As man tries to conquer this planet (and indeed others in the universe) using the might of human and machine intelligence, suddenly nature reminds us that she has the power to unleash a destructive energy several times more powerful than a nuclear bomb.

Nature nurtures, but push her too far, and she punishes. Without warning or remorse.

Are we humans too arrogant? Do we take our "intelligence" for granted, forgetting that inside the ocean, a dolphin can make us look like newborn babies? Are we completely desensitized to the cries of a pig being cruelly slaughtered in an early Calangute morning, but will hit back in indignation if someone merely pushes us about in a crowded Mapusa market? Do we lash out in irrational fright at the snakes that scurry out of their homes when we plunder their habitat to put up ugly buildings that stay unoccupied for most months in the year? But think nothing of dangling these very creatures before curious tourists just to make a quick buck?

You are among the few who care about the future of our planet, and all the creatures that draw life from her. That's why you are reading this page. That's why you must ACT. Lend a hand in whatever way you can to the animal welfare movement in this country. This is a movement that aims to protect and preserve the flora and fauna of our country. To prevent cruelties that occur when our friends - mute only because they do not speak our language - are used for entertainment, experiments, sacrifices, food, transportation and export, in the most inhumane ways.

Goa is a state of animal lovers. We already have people dedicated to the cause, and organisations working hard to fight for animals. But we need many more.
