Thanks for writing in with your problems and points of view. This month we feature letters : one from a Goan housewife, one from a schoolgirl, and one from a management professor.

From Mrs Audrey Rebello, Caranzalem:

The people being aware of the need to take care of wild animals, but still
there are people who kill wild bores and certain amount of quantity of
meat has been given to the minister's to cover the issue . It is a pathetic
site to see that the zoo in Goa is not been maintained. It is also sad to
see the animals in a miserable state as there is no proper shelter, space
and medical facilities provided for these animals.

Having so many animals lover in the state there has been nothing done about the same. There is so much of space in the state that can have sanctuaries which will help the environment and the local people of that place to get jobs. Goa can be the best tourist spot in the world not only for sun, sand & surf but we can have sanctuaries to show which could be maintained and have animals roming freely. It is sad to know that the national animal of India will soon be wiped out. When any animals found wounded, the people are not aware where to go for help. When people see or know that there is a snake in their compound they would kill. The people are not aware that we are the intruders in the Animal Kingdom.

From Nikita Fernandes, Mapusa

Well I love all animals and I aspire on becoming a vet .At present I'm studying in the ninth standard and I'm thirteen years old I would love to have a pet but since we live in an apartment my mom doesn't approve of it.

From Ranjini Swamy, Goa Institute of Management

I'd like to share some thoughts about the workshops for children in schools. I was wondering if excursions for children and their teachers could be a more powerful way of creating guardian angels in the future.

For instance, a trip to labs which use rabbits and frogs for dissection could expose children to the conditions in which the animals are kept, how they are treated, etc. This could powerfully influence students to desist from use of animals in the lab.The exposure of teachers to the same could reinforce the learnings. It may also ensure that the school admin. reacts favourably to protecting the rights of animals.
