Lynn de Souza, with Maneck Davar (publisher);Prem Mehta and Piyush Pandey who released the book; and her godchild Amanda

Lynn de Souza, Director, Media Services and Healthcare, Lowe. launched her first book on 21st evening in Mumbai. And no, it has nothing to do with numbers and media planning. As the name 'A Dog's Life' tells, it is the story of a little dog Moti.

Prem Mehta, Managing Director, Lowe India was entrusted with the role of introducing de Souza to a small gathering of animal lovers and agency people. And during the course of the introduction he stated, "To introduce Lynn for me means introducing her the way I have known her…she is unpredictable, changing all the time. She breaks traditions and makes her own road. She loves challenges and is committed to achievements."

The book was released by Piyush Pandey, Group President & National Creative Director, O&M, India. While inaugurating the book he stated, "To me it is more than a book. It has got a lot to do with human emotions extended to animals and more so to humans". He added, "Here is woman who has got guts and who believes in doing things. She chases a passion, and leads by example. Perhaps she would motivate some of us to chase our dreams and passions, rather than just thinking some day I will do it."

In her address, de Souza presented a case against PEST (People for the elimination of stray troubles. She said, "There is humane solution to every problem. Killing is not the only alternative".

She also spoke at length on the need for love and affection towards animals. She mentioned an ad created by Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, "The Goa SPCA did an ad where this little street dog says, 'I am not pretty, my owner is not rich, I have no voice. So you want to kill me?' There is some truth in this plea, isn't there?' In my book, Moti gives his side of the story, though he is not a stray dog."

All proceeds from this book will go to the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Goa. De Souza stated, "I have written it to raise funds for the animals that come to our hospital in Goa, who have no human owners, or whose human friends are too poor to pay for their medicines.

The book is published by Spenta Multimedia and has a foreword by Benny Thomas.

On to the book itself now. A Dog's Life is about a friendship between three pariah dogs, Moti, Tiger and Rani and their human benefactor, the Pinto girl. It is narrated by Moti from his home in heaven.

A couple of excerpts:

* This was my first real lesson in the power of universal compassion. Put a drunken man with a stick before a helpless wounded animal, and you expect the former to win - right? Wrong. That night I learned that there are good and kind forces in this world that do prevail, and all we have to do is to believe in them for them to come to our rescue.

*….she (Pinto girl) was as exhausted and filthy and tense as we were, covered with the urine and vomit of all the other dogs that had rubbed off on to our bodies, and the car was a total mess. Nothing that couldn't be wiped clean of course, unlike the memories of those harrowing moments in the death chamber. But we had survived that near death experience, and it became one that would tie the bonds between her and us forever, long after death really took us away.
